Power Antivirus 2009 – not a Program You Want on Your Computer : Antivirus

Best Registry Cleaner

Power Antivirus 2009 is not an antivirus program, even though the name would lead you to believe so. Power Antivirus 2009 is rogue anti-spyware, a scam–and worse.

To start with, Power Antivirus 2009 will display false information stating you are infected, while not allowing you to remove anything unless you purchase Power Antivirus 2009. Power Antivirus is advertised by sites pretending to be online scanners. These fake scanners are just advertisements. If you decide to install Power Antivirus 2009, the program will automatically scan your computer and state you are infected with a variety of programs. All of these programs either do not exist or are legitimate programs your computer needs. That means if you remove the programs Power Antivirus 2009 suggests, you can do serious damage to your computer.

Power Antivirus 2009 will display fake alerts on your computer. These alerts range from fake firewall alerts telling you that your Internet Explorer is infected to fake
Windows Security Center alerts stating something is attacking your computer. These alerts are scare tactics to get you to purchase Power Antivirus 2009. These alerts, as alarming as they can be, should be ignored.

Power Antivirus 2009 is more than just scare tactics and an annoyance. I mentioned before it is a rogue anti-spyware program. Let me explain what a rogue anti-spyware program is and does. Spyware are programs that are designed to reside in your system and spy on your private and confidential data. These programs then send your data to the actual creator and planters of the rogue software. Anti-spyware are programs that have been created to fight this kind of software. Rogue anti-spyware programs, like Power Antivirus 2009, disguise themselves as valid programs, but they have intentions to rip you off and steal your information. That is what rogue anti-spyware is and does.

Not only do you get the scare tactics and the spyware that is Power Antivirus 2009 added to your machine if you choose to install it, but you also get adware, more spyware and other malware. You have also just given your credit card information to a source that will abuse that information.

I know this can be scary, but there are things you can do to protect yourself or remove Power Antivirus 2009 if you have it. There are many quality anti-spyware applications available. Some are free. Some you have to buy. I would suggest doing a little research and finding one with some awards. Awards guarantee it is a legitimate program and not another rogue anti-spyware. If an anti-spyware program has received an award, it will be prominently displayed on the program’s website. Software companies are very proud of their awards, as they should be. Do some due diligence and choose a reputable anti-spyware program that has been recognized through awards and other accolades, and you should be safe from Power Antivirus 2009 and other rogue anti-spyware.
